Small Hope Bay Lodge is the most established dive resort in the Caribbean, so it’s a natural for novice and experienced divers looking for an adventure. This all-inclusive resort in the Out Islands of the Bahamas, is where people take an island vacation to dive, snorkel, fish, kayak, swim and yes, get married on the pristine, and secluded tropical Small Hope Beach.
For more than 40 years couples have sought out a beach wedding at Small Hope Bay. Because of the one-of-a-kind island wedding experience, it’s become a family tradition to get married at this small, intimate resort in the Bahamas. You can celebrate with the simple ceremony by the sea, or Small Hope Bay Lodge will arrange a wedding and reception for up to 40 of your closest friends and relatives.
The specialty here is diving and snorkeling. The Andros Barrier Reef is the third largest reef system in the world. The experienced guides and teachers from Small Hope Bay Lodge offer three dives a day from the reef: Night dives, shark dives, and one-on-one specialty dives. The lodge also offers SCUBA Certifications, Nitrox Certification, SASY equipment for kids, and free SCUBA intro lessons for those who want to try it.
Daily snorkeling trips and special excursions will let you explore from the shore in crystal clear waters. The staff at Small Hope Bay will arrange bonefishing, reef fishing or deep sea fishing for guests. After all, Andros is the Bonefish Capital of the World.
If you’re at Small Hope Bay to simply vacation and experience all that Andros and the Out Islands have to offer, then you’ll find something for everyone. Borrow one of the lodge’s bikes and explore the island. The native Bahamians at the lodge also can provide maps and suggested itineraries, such as the small village of Fresh Creek, just 20 minutes away, or the Androsia Batik Factory or a blue hole – just take along your suit, so you can go for a fresh water swim.
Small Hope Bay Lodge also lends its binoculars to guests who want to go birding. The lodge hosts several birding groups throughout the year. Just be warned, on Andros, you’ll find dozens of varieties of birds. A list of birds and best birding locations is at the lodge.
Tour the intriguing North Andros area on a guided eco-tour (or nature tour) or visit the different types of blue holes in the area. Small Hope offers two, half-day guided nature tours. If you’d rather tour on your own, borrow one of the lodge’s kayaks and take to the open sea, or check out one of the suggested trails.
Other activities at the resort include hot-tubbing on the beach by the ocean and under the stars, relaxing in a hammock (no instructions required), massage either in your room or oceanside, taking a nature trail and viewing the more than 50 varieties of orchids that grow on Andros, borrowing the lodge’s Escape or Hobie Cat and sailing (we suggest a lunch and a trip to Goat Cay), windsurfing (the lodge has several for you to use), a yoga class, and if you must shop, check out the outlet store and souvenir shops at the Androsia Batik Factory, just three miles up the road.
