Eleuthera’s Storied Landmarks and Attractions

ELEUTHERA IS RICH WITH NATURAL WONDERS AND HISTORIC LANDMARKS

About 2-miles east of Upper Bogue, north of Gregory Town where Eleuthera's narrowest, is the Glass Window Bridge.  The striking rock formations are a must-see on any Bahamas vacation. Just 30-feet wide, the land is high on either side and falls abruptly to nearly sea level. From any spot, you can see the grey Atlantic to the west and Exuma Sound to the east.

The Cow & The Bull is another interesting land formation on Eleuthera. About a mile from the Glass Window Bridge, are two large boulders--one looks like a bull with two cows, and the other like a bull with one cow. Both overlook the sea, and when there's inclement weather, and the wind passes through, it sounds like a bull grunting.

Go 2-miles east of Gene's Bay to Preachers Cave where founders of the island sheltered and made an altar.

If riding waves are your thing, bring your gear and head out to Surfer's Bay, a budding vacation destination. Southwest winds break in from the Atlantic, bringing waves to this soft, sugary-white coast.

South of Surfer's Beach is Hatchet Bay Cave, a mile-long cave filled with stalagmites and stalactites. Under torchlight, the area resembles an underground Cathedral. Centuries-old charcoal art marks the walls, but we recommend viewing them with a cave tour guide.

Brisk southerly winds make James Cistern Beach a great surfing site. Waves sometimes reach 10-feet, and there's a shipwreck just offshore, a wonderful snorkeling site when the water is calm.

People often seek out the healing powers of the rumored bottomless Ocean Hole. A natural limestone wonder on the south edge of Rock Sound, the hole is filled with brackish water, said to have medicinal uses, tropical fish and turtles.

One of the best beaches in Eleuthera, some say even better than Pink Sands, is a hidden gem called Lighthouse Beach. Located on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera Point, behind secluded sand dunes and a rose-sand beach, it's a great place to have a romantic afternoon or go on a sunset stroll with your better half.

Eleuthera's hotels and resorts are ideal for vacationers wanting to be closer to the water. The perfect island for a destination wedding and a tropical honeymoon, look out for flights and hotel packages to The Bahamas.
