Island Hopping in the Out Islands of The Bahamas
The only thing more romantic than an island vacation is the idea that you could actually visit more than one island in the same trip.
Say it: “We’re going to spend a week island-hopping.” It’s the ultimate in an exotic vacation. Not surprisingly, with so many to choose from, the Out Islands of the Bahamas are one of the world’s premier island-hopping destinations.
Island hopping in the Bahamas comes in two styles: within the same local chain, and longer hops between chains. The Abacos and Eleuthera/Harbour Island/Spanish Wells are naturals for the local version. In each of those island groups, you can base yourself in one place and then do day hops by boat to sample the other islands (for example, basing in Marsh Harbour and doing day trips to Hope Town and Great Guana) or pack up and move hotels to get a more complete picture of the other islands (as in starting your week at a hotel on Eleuthera and then ferrying over to Harbour Island for the balance of your trip).
Broaden your idea of island hopping in the Bahamas to the big picture, and the Out Islands offer an incredible variety of mix and match vacation options. Truly an a la carte island vacation, the many flights between the islands – scheduled and charter – mean that within a single trip you could fish for marlin off the Abacos, visit an eco resort on Andros and then tour the historic sights on Cat Island or join the parties at the Family Island Regatta in the Exumas. Or, you could dive with sharks off Long Island, into a blue hole on Andros and into Thunderball Cave off Staniel Cay. Or, sample a boutique resort on Harbour Island, a private island in the Exuma Cays and a marina resort in the Abacos. Or… Well, you get the beautiful picture. With all the wonderful Out Island experiences waiting, and convenient flights, the world is your oyster… or conch. Island hopping in the Bahamas is an experience you’ll never forget.
